I am in touch with Javed Bhai from last so many years , but I know him only as a fine script writer and lyricist. But today I have seen a new facet of him. He has great concern for environment protection.
The residents of Oshiwara and Lokhandwala area of Andheri suburb of Mumbai are fighting to get back open spaces from the land sharks, protecting mangroves and saving environment. This citizen initiative has helped to halt unauthorise construction , to celebrate their small victory today, citizens under leadership of Ashok Pandit gathered in the open space and called Javed Bhai to address the crowd.
Javed Bhai told that open spaces in the urban area like Mumbai are like lungs. This is more important when the urbanisation took place without giving much thought. He has given example of Belgium where density of population is much more higher in Urban areas than Mumbai, but with careful planning they have kept adequate open spaces in their cities, with the result despite heavy urbanisation, where ever you travel you will be have a feel balance of nature and people.
Javed Bhai is now a member of Rajya Sabha. Every MP get Rs5 Crore as Sansad Nidhi to use in their constituency. Javed Bhai has taken a big initiative and spending this fund to create more green spaces, amphitheaters, cycling tracks, walkaways so that there should be a qualitative improvement in the life of residents. Not only this but a nallah running in the Juhu area full of filth and bad odor, will have clean water . While most of the MPs spent his Nidhi on controversial and debatable projects, his efforts will set up a new example.
