Today around 2.00 in the afternoon I got a SMS from Sanjay Verma. It was an invite to witness launch of a music company Expert Music & Entertainment with release of its debut album Alakh Niranjan Bol
at Country Club, Andheri. The release was around 4 o' clock and it took me almost 2 hours to reach Veera Desai Road, Andheri from Nariman Point, so it was 5 o clock when I could be there at the venue. Surprise, Surprise, Surprise by the time I reached the launch and release function was over and the guests were busy getting themselves photographed with chief guest Anup Jalota. So the launch was precisely on time. Sanjay is always meticulous in doing things at the right time.
I am watching Sanjay from almost 6-7 years, very unassuming person, very calm, very sober but very focussed. he is in to the hardcore marketing from ages, but somehow he did not allow the creative persona of him to die. He finds time and energy to do something close to his heart.
Everybody knows that music industry is in the worst situation, one hardly buy a CD of music there are so many options available where people may download songs of latest movies. Sanjay knew marketing brief, so he has taken a very different route. The first thing comes to mind is downloads provided by tele- communication service provider Now the earning generates from download of caller tunes/ ring tones, it is divided in three parts, major add to service provider remaining to the company and agency. If you have video of songs, youtube share revenue with you on the basis of downloads. So Sanjay's funda is to earn in a situation when the business is no more lucrative and all the major players want to come out of it.
We will talk about Sanjay's other business mantras some other time but he is ready with another business proposition to start his own production house in near future.
His album Alakh Niranjan Bolis a compilation of bhajans penned by Sanjeev Nigam, M P baranwal, Ajay Jhingran , Vinod Swapnil, sung by Sadhna Sargam, Javed Ali, Manjeera Ganguli, Chandni Lal and Nilesh Raman. These are no ordinary bhajans but crafted in traditional mould with modern compositions by Sanjiva Rana and Abheejeet Aroon.
