I have just gone through a write-up in Time magazine dated 14th July 2016 titled "The Healing Power of Nature" by Alexandra Sifferlin, It has affirmed and expanded my understanding about the Jungles and their amazing healing power.
It all started with a study carried out by Japanese researchers,at Chiba University they concluded that people who spent 40 minutes walking in a forest full of cdar trees have lower level of stress harmone coristol, which is largely involved in blood pressure and immune system function, they compared this with walking for 40 minutes in lab, the researcher Youshifumi Miyazaki said that spending time in the forest induces a state of physiologic relaxation. Another researcher Dr Qing Li found that trees and plants emit aromatic compounds called phytocides that when inhaled spurs healthy biological changes similar to aromatherapy. It is also found that in case people spend night in jungle, they often exhibit changes in blood which are associated with protection against cancer.
More benefit of walking in Jungle every day :
1. It can lower blood pressure. Fresh air and the natural fragrance of trees may be the most important influences on blood pressure.
2. Exposure to it can increase awe. This can affect behavior positively and reduce the levels of inflammatory compounds in the body.
3. It promotes cancer fighting cells. Natural killer cells increase in number after a person walks through a forest.
4. It can help with depression and anxiety. The mechanism is not clear, but the effect is well-known. High levels of negative ions in natural areas may be involved.
5. It may help with ADHD symptoms. Children who were diagnosed with ADHD given 20-minute walks in three different environments, a park, a neighborhood, and an urban area. After the walk in the park, the children could concentrate better than after walking in other areas.
6. Even fake nature has benefits. Nature images, sounds, and smells, can reduce stress, improve attention, and promote physical healing. Patients in hospital rooms with a view of trees heal faster than those without such a view.
That is why I feel blessed as I stay hardly 500 metres from Jungle, I spend everyday around an hour in the jungle and on Sundays normally a walk on hill for 2 hours. The moment I come back and relax, I strongly feel the jungle power inside (no pun intended) !
