Olympic Game Farm, Sequim WA

There was a time when Walt Disney used to produce lot many films with some cute animals as an actor. I still remember 'Charlie the lonesome Cougar, 'The Incredible Journey','White Wilderness'and 'Grizzly Adams' television and movie series. One thing was common in all those movies, the magic touch of Walt and Roy Disney, and animals trained by Lloy and Katherine Beebe. The Beebe have their Olympic Game Park in Olympic peninsula of Washington State and they were responsible to train variety of animals from cougar to bison for Disney films.

After death for Roy and Walt Disney, the Disney Studios shifted their focus on nature films, which were very close to Walt's heart.

In 1972, with approval of the Disney Studios for using Disney name, Olympic Game farm opened its gates for general public. After Lloyds and Catherrine retired from film industry. they focussed solely on caring their animal actors, concentrating on offering 'in need' captive bred animals a new and loving home.

We recently traveled from Seattle to Sequim to visit the park.It took 2  hours
We decided to travel via Tacoma following Highway 101 north via Bremerton crossing Hood Canal Bridge, contiuned on highway I 104 crossing Sequim Town which is very famous for commercial crop of Lavender flower. Rightly so it is called Lavender Capital of North America. Deck was set for its Annual Sequim Lavender Festival. It is hardly 20 minutes drive from Sequim to Olympic Game Farm.Another landmark on way is Naval Undersea Museum. Located close to Naval Base, Keyport , this museum provides valuable information about undersea capabilities of US Navy. Entry as well as parking is free.

Since opening day in 1972 , families have been making memories on park's  self guided Drive Tour. While driving through 84 acres of terrain, we  got an up close face to face experience with a variety of wildlife from the comfort of our car. The terrain of park slightly hilly one. Animals started approaching our  car windows to say hello and grab a slice of bread . The hoofed animals who approached us were  Llama, Tibetan Yak, Elk, American Bison, Spotted Fallow Deer, Sika Deer, European Fallow Deer, Zebra as well as horses.

In addition to the free ranging animals there are  waving bears, they also performed   behind their fence line for a snack. There are  “in need” predators from their enclosures before heading to our elk and bison fields. While enjoying the interaction from the elk and bison, keep in mind they can get aggressive, so the park authority requests the visitors to keep their vehicles moving at all times in those two areas to prevent damage to your own vehicle or cars that may be behind you.

Siberian tiger, cougar, fox  and other ferocious animals are kept in comfortable cages. The visitors are permitted to move around the park in their cars. At the entrance you may buy whole wheat bread loafs to feed animals.

There is a separate small section where reptiles are kept, which is very  interesting for  children as well as to the adults as it also give valuable information about their life style, food habits etc.

While coming back to Seattle we took a short cut. From Brain Bridge Island to Seattle you may cross the pacific through a ferry capable of taking more than 250 plus vehicles, it not only reduce the journey time but also give an opportunity to view enchanting skyline of down town.
