I am pained to bring this case before my enlightened readers that how some Banks in India have gone to an extant tearing reputation of their genuine customers.
Yesterday, I was traveling from India to USA, while in transit at Heathrow Airport I saw a message from one of my close friend who wanted to talk some thing urgent, I noticed few of his missed calls also. When I finally landed at Seattle Airport,I saw similar message from another friend of mine with urgency in his tone and few of his missed calls.
Both of them were called from the same mobile number , the caller was from Delhi and claimed that he was from HDFC and called to inform them that my newly married daughter in law's brother and his wife are in a cartel to misappropriate funds from his Bank. They were wondering that if a relative of mine has conned the Bank than why at the first place HDFC Bank has called them. They are educated and enlightened people, sensed some kind of decoy. I t tried to assure my friends that it seems to be a case of mistaken identity or some Conman is trying to extract some information for some nefarious design.
But when I called Greesh, my daughter in law's brother, who stays in Singapore, what I learnt from him was so shocking , I decided to share with everyone, to make them understand how some bankers are tearing reputation of their customer without properly cross checking the facts. The matter of fact is that Greesh had purchased something worth Rs 50,000 on his HDFC Credit Card some three months back while on his visit to India, As he works and stays in Singapore, he remitted the funds from Singapore in Singapore Dollars matching the outstanding amount in his card account. HDFC did not map the remittance with Greesh's account. They keep on sending reminders, HDFC Bank has a Branch in Singapore, Greesh called that Branch but instead of getting his problem resolved asked him to call Bank's helpline number in India.People who interact with these helpline numbers knows very well how these numbers function, on most of time after waiting for ten to fifteen minutes to connect customer service executive, you feel like interacting with an humanoid rather a human being, who is only good to cram scripted answers, even after parting away few hundred Singapore Dollars on these calls to helpline as well as emails, Greesh could not get a confirmation that his card account is credited. Bank as a so called proactive measures, pass on his name to it's recovery agent. Now the real crime story started unfolding . This over smart recovery agent started hacking Greesh's vital contact numbers details, God knows from his Facebook or some other social media account. The first thing in Bank is to respect customer relationship and maintain confidentiality, even if a customer fails to pay he should be given option of paying that amount in instalments on the very first place. But here it is a criminal way of tearing the reputation, calling friends of customer's sister's father in law's friends and informing them that Greesh Gupta has cheated HDFC Bank.
I have suggested Greesh to lodge an FIR against Bank and it's recovery agent for breach of confidentiality and that too without verifying the facts at their end. Now a time has come to expose them so that they should not insult, demean their own genuine customers and tarnish their reputation.
Many of my blog readers are from Media more particularly from TV, they should cover such cases at their channels to expose totally unethical way of recovering the dues by some Banks in India.
